Web Design and Web Development

Northamptonshire Black History Project - Click to Enlarge I got into web design by coming to it from two directions: fifteen years ago I had been doing a lot of presentation work using design and authoring packages such as Pagemaker and Photoshop, and I had also been programming databases in Visual Basic.

I use all the standard technologies for web design such as HTML/XHTML (for basic pages), ASP (for dynamically-generated web pages) and VB (visual basic for data manipulation and programming).

My overall approach to all web design is simplicity and easy navigation. Sites should be easy on the eye and clear to the user as to what they are trying to do, and no page on the site should be more than two clicks away (the "two-click" rule). Many clients require a database to sit behind the web site to either provide content or data which can be edited by admiistrators and sometimes users with the appropriate permission. Examples here show designs for projects for Londonwide Local Medical Committees and the Northamptonshire Black History Project.
